John Denver became a star through the folk-inspired songs he composed, the majority of which were situated in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, the singer-songwriter fell in love with Colorado and then relocated to Aspen. Many people traveled to Colorado due to Denver's famous anthems to his adopted state. G. Brown, curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared it was because John Denver is the only musician to truly embody Colorado. In 2011, Denver was chosen as the Hall of Fame's first inductee. Today he personifies the state for people worldwide. When I travel, I always meet someone from the other side of the world one who is from New Zealand and you say "I'm from Colorado and the very first thing that comes that comes out of their mouths is Oh John Denver! Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief career with folk bands, was Denver's debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff had Johnny Cash as the inspiration for the track, however Denver recognized that the song could turn into a hit once it was discovered that an earlier version. He recorded it within a couple of days of having performed on stage in Washington D.C. before an audience that was very enthusiastic.
